December 2025 Update: Pledge Manager Smoke Test + Insert Testing + Soundtrack Preview

ℹ️ Pledge Manager Smoke Test
Our pledge manager 'smoke test' surveys will be rolling out over the next week! A small, randomly selected group of backers will receive their surveys first so we can make sure everything is running smoothly. Once we’re confident everything is behaving as it should, we’ll hit the button to send out the rest of the surveys.
We’ll post another update once the full survey wave goes live - don't worry if you don't see anything before then!

📥 Insert Testing
Right before PAXU, Chris put the game's organiser tray system through its paces using a prototype produced from a plaster mold. During final manufacturing, the trays will be made using precision aluminium molds, which deliver crisp detail and consistent shaping, but they’re also extremely expensive to create, so we only commit once we’re certain the design is final. At this stage, we use plaster molds to prototype quickly and cheaply. They’re slightly less precise, but perfect for checking general fit and making adjustments quickly.
The great news is that the first insert sample was already very close to perfect - huge kudos to Bryce at Black Magic Inserts for such a strong first pass! While the team were at PAXU, Bryce made a few small tweaks to prevent components from shifting, and our manufacturer is now preparing an updated sample for us to review.
The first tray prototype, with every component (base game + expansion with sleeved cards) stored neatly inside. The left image shows the insert with the tentacle-shape resource holder in place, the right shows it without. This version was created from a plaster mold, so it’s a little rougher than the final production insert will be, and the prototype uses plain blue plastic.
🎵 Soundtrack Preview
All eight tracks of the Cosmoctopus soundtrack are now complete! A huge thank you to Anatoly K (@anatoliigmusic) for composing these wonderfully atmospheric pieces.
You can listen to all tracks here. For now, the tracks are not downloadable and are in MP3 format. As we get closer to fulfilment, we’ll make them downloadable and provide WAV versions too; until then, you are able to listen in your browser.

🐙 Our New Adoptee Has a Name!
The naming poll has officially closed, and after 295 votes, our adopted octopus shall be known as… Cthuthbert!
It was pretty tight at the top; thank you to everyone who suggested names and took part in the vote 😊

All backers will shortly be receiving a Kickstarter message containing links to our Prismoctopus desktop wallpaper in multiple sizes; we hope they bring a little cosmic excitement to your screens!

What a fantastic campaign it has been! Thank you to every single backer; to every one of you who shared the project, commented, voted for an octopus name, or supported us in any other way. Your enthusiasm for the Cosmoctoverse has been infectious!
I (Chris) also want to give a personal thank you to the entire Paper Fort Games team for their incredible work before and throughout the campaign, to Silke for managing comments while we’ve been asleep or away, to our demo team at Spiel Essen and to the brilliant creative team for bringing this expansion to life. I'm really proud of what we've created together!
🐙 Bonus Adoptions + Naming Poll
You all worked so hard on the Social Goals, and came so close to the remaining targets, that we decided it was only right to adopt another octopus!
We’ve gathered a selection of our favourite Devotee name suggestions; now it’s time to vote for your favourites!
The poll will close in 10 days, and the two most popular names will be bestowed upon our newly adopted cephalopod friends 🐙. Thank you to everyone who shared their name ideas!
The whole PFG team will be taking a couple of weeks off to recover from the campaign; if you have any questions, please feel free to message us via Kickstarter or email us at [email protected] but please bear in mind we’ll answer once we’re back in the office.
Pledge Manager
We hope to open the post-campaign pledge manager (BackerKit) within the next 3-4 weeks. You’ll receive an invitation to the pledge manager via email (sent to the email address you use for Kickstarter). Here, you’ll be able to review your pledge, manage add-ons, purchase additional copies of the game and provide updated delivery addresses in the case of a house move. It’s also where you’ll pay for your shipping.
You’ll receive emails from BackerKit before we lock orders and addresses, and before we charge cards for shipping. To avoid missing these emails, please add [email protected]to your safelist to stop them being marked as spam.
Comments and Messages
Once we're back, we will be checking and responding to comments on the Kickstarter page and to Kickstarter messages once a week. If you require an urgent response, please email us at [email protected].
Updates
We will be publishing Kickstarter updates once a month, starting in November, to keep you in the loop. We may post additional mini-updates with important milestones or information, but at a minimum we will check in monthly to report on progress (even if it’s just to say ‘nothing new to report’!).

🐙 We Need Your Octopus Names!
In our last update, we mentioned we were extremely close to our first octopus adoption, and now we’re even closer! In fact, we’ve decided to adopt an octopus early so that you can help name them before the campaign ends! Of course, we’d still love your help reaching our Social Goals, but we couldn’t resist getting the naming started.
As in the original campaign, our adoption will be through the wonderful folks at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium; an independent, non-profit marine research organisation supporting marine species conservation and coral reef restoration. 🌊
Now we just need a name!
Please share your suggestions (keep them clean, please!) in the main campaign comment section (posting them on the main comment section, rather than here, helps boost the visibility of the campaign) and we’ll choose our favourites for a backer poll. For inspiration, the octopuses we adopted in the original campaign were called Cosmo, Celestia, Cuttles, Blinky, and Momo. We can’t wait to hear your suggestions!
